Directions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast with sugar, salt and warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes or until it rise.
- Transfer the mixture into a large bowl and add the egg, olive oil and melted butter. Mix them.
- Now combine flour and milk powder together. Add this in three additions to the wet ingredients while mixing well. Knead the dough well until smooth for about 10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it sit for 2-4 hours or until it doubles in size. (This rising will also depend on climate. You can also refrigerate the dough by putting it in an airtight bag, overnight)
- After the dough has risen, give a good punch to deflate the air and cut them into 8 equal pieces.(Each weigh 55g)
- Then shape them into balls by folding the edges into the bottom. (See pictures and video demonstrations attached)
- Cover them and let them sit for another 10 minutes.
- In a slightly floured surface, roll out the dough balls in to circles.
- Make 4 cuts as shown in the picture. Place the filling, cheese and tomato ketchup in the centre and fold each as shown in the picture.
- Make sure to seal each folds by pinching the dough tight. If you skip this step, the roses are going to open wide while it is baking.
- Place the roses on a tray lined with baking paper and cover it and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Meanwhile preheat the oven for 200 degrees Celsius.
- Now apply the egg wash and bake the roses for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
- Once baked, apply melted butter on the hot roses and cover it with foil or a kitchen towel for 10 minutes. This will make your roses so soft. Enjoy!
