Cheddar cheese
Tomato Ketchup

For the egg wash

1 egg yolk
1 tbsp milk or water
1 tsp sugar

Directions
  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast with sugar, salt and warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes or until it rise.
  2. Transfer the mixture into a large bowl and add the egg, olive oil and melted butter. Mix them.
  3. Now combine flour and milk powder together. Add this in three additions to the wet ingredients while mixing well. Knead the dough well until smooth for about 10 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it sit for 2-4 hours or until it doubles in size. (This rising will also depend on climate. You can also refrigerate the dough by putting it in an airtight bag, overnight)
  5. After the dough has risen, give a good punch to deflate the air and cut them into 8 equal pieces.(Each weigh 55g)
  6. Then shape them into balls by folding the edges into the bottom. (See pictures and video demonstrations attached)
  7. Cover them and let them sit for another 10 minutes.
  8. In a slightly floured surface, roll out the dough balls in to circles.
  9. Make 4 cuts as shown in the picture. Place the filling, cheese and tomato ketchup in the centre and fold each as shown in the picture.
  10. Make sure to seal each folds by pinching the dough tight. If you skip this step, the roses are going to open wide while it is baking.
  11. Place the roses on a tray lined with baking paper and cover it and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  12. Meanwhile preheat the oven for 200 degrees Celsius.
  13. Now apply the egg wash and bake the roses for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  14. Once baked, apply melted butter on the hot roses and cover it with foil or a kitchen towel for 10 minutes. This will make your roses so soft. Enjoy!
