Dried Shrimp Powder

January 13, 2019
Dried Shrimp powder is normally used as a food flavour enhancer in South East Asia and Chinese cooking. This can be used as a substitute to any artificial flaour enhancers or MSG. It is added to most of my recipes like Nasi Goreng, Chili Paste, Seeni sambol or etc. This can be stored up to a month in an airtight container.

Ingredient

200g of dried shrimps or as needed

Directions

  1. Wash the dried shrimps using a sieve. Squeeze to drain off the water in it. Spread it into a kitchen towel to get rid of excess water.
  2. Heat a pan over medium heat and dry roast the slightly wet dried shrimps. Keep mixing otherwise the shrimps will stick to the pan. (You should feel that the shrimps are getting lighter in weight as you roast them)
  3. Once the shrimps are done, they will be so light in weight and dry.
  4. Now grind the roasted dry shrimps into a fine powder. Store in an airtight container once it is completely cool. Enjoy!
