Jam Bun
Jam Bun is a bread stuffed with strawberry jam or any flavoured Jam sprinkled with sugar on top. It was my childhood favourite when I was in Sri Lanka. Make these for an evening snack or breakfast. Who would not love fresh baked Jam buns from the oven.
Ingredient
500g all purpose flour
3 1/2 tsp instant dry yeast
90g sugar
20g butter
280ml warm water
2 tbsp milk powder
2 tsp salt
Sugar (to sprinkle on top)
Water for sprinkling
Strawberry Jam or any flavoured Jam
3 1/2 tsp instant dry yeast
90g sugar
20g butter
280ml warm water
2 tbsp milk powder
2 tsp salt
Sugar (to sprinkle on top)
Water for sprinkling
Strawberry Jam or any flavoured Jam
Directions
- In bowl, mix all the dry ingredients. (Except water and butter)
- Gradually add the water little by little until the dough is soft , but not sticky (if dough is sticky add more flour a tablespoon at a time.)
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, for 8-10 minutes.
- Continue to knead until a soft ball of dough forms and place the dough in a lightly greased bowl.
- Cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm place to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Turn the dough out onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Gently press it all over to remove any air pockets.
- Divide the dough in 90g pieces and make dough balls and let them rest for 15 minutes covered.
- After 15 minutes roll one dough ball into a thin round shape with a rolling pin. Place 2 tablespoon of strawberry jam in the center and close it and make cut marks with a knife as in the picture.
- Let the Jam buns rest for 20 minutes in the baking trays.
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees for 15 minutes.
- Before putting them into the oven brush the tops with water & sprinkle sugar.
- Reduce the heat to 180 degrees Celsius. Place the baking tray in the middle section and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Take them out of the oven & rest them for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
